Gibson Style / L5 CESN / 1978 / Natural / Guitar For Sale
A Werewolf in Wolf's Clothing ..... THE TRUE CONVERT!
What we have here is a custom order made for a customer and friend of my friend and So West luthier/craftsman/builder Gil Chavez. A very pained effort to make a stunning reproduction.
It started life as an already collectible arch top that as an import commands up to $3k in it's original form. It was a totally acoustic 1978 Ibanez Johnny Smith 2641NT which was so good it along with many other models wound up in a law suit never to be made again. This example had really high quality and stunning maple back and sides and a VERY tightly grained spruce top. 17" wide and sounds like a Super 400 as well.
Gil's customer wanted it to be customized to look like a Gibson L5CES so Gil built it a custom neck from scratch with all of the inlays and torch L5 head stock. LOOK AT THE FLAMES ON THAT NECK!! WHAT a piece of maple!! Painted black stinger makes it ULTRA cool i think!! He transplanted the orig fingerboard onto the neck he made and topped with the Grover Imperials in roto-matic boxes. Then finally Gil added an entire electronic harness that includes a set of Seth Lover pick ups by Seymour Duncan.
The end result is a stunning great and drop dead gorgeous L-5CES top quality repro for a fraction of what the guy would have paid for an L-5. I guess he didn't have the 7-25 grand (+)!! It has never been represented as anything other than what it is so no "chibson" baggage. Complete clean bill of health!!
A "one off" for a friend and a gorgeous sounding Jazz box!! Look at these pix. That neck, back and sides. comes with a heavy duty hard shell case
