Gilchrist / Model 5 F5 Mandolin / 2004 / Stringed Instrument For Sale

Stephen Gilchrist began building instruments in Australia in 1977, but his career took a decisive turn in 1979 when he was offered a position at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. There, he worked for many years as a repairman and had the unique opportunity to study the finest vintage mandolins in the world. His focus was primarily on the legendary Lloyd Loar mandolins from the 1920s, built by Gibson. By closely examining and repairing these instruments, Gilchrist learned the secrets behind their unsurpassed tone and construction. He brought this knowledge back to Australia, where he began building mandolins that capture the spirit of those classic Loar instruments, but with his own interpretation and craftsmanship. This Model 5 mandolin from 2004 was built as part of Batch #35, which ran from May to December of that year. The instrument features beautiful quilted sugar maple back and sides, combined with an Adirondack spruce top treated with spirit varnish. This traditional finish contributes to the rich, open tone for which Gilchrist is renowned. The ebony fingerboard with awabi abalone inlays and the ivoroid binding give the mandolin an elegant appearance befitting its status as an absolute top instrument. The tone of this Gilchrist is powerful, balanced, and full of character. The Adirondack spruce top provides a bright, direct sound with excellent projection, while the maple adds warmth and depth. The tuning is perfect, with a comfortable rounded V neck profile that appeals to both classical players and modern bluegrass musicians. This mandolin responds directly and precisely, and is equally at home for fast bluegrass runs and subtle chord work. With light playwear, the mandolin is in excellent condition and is ready to offer years of enjoyment to its new owner. It comes in a Calton hardshell case and a TFOA passport. Consignment.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
