Jaen / Jaén Siracusa 16 / Guitar

Fernando A. Jaén is an independent and solitary guitarmaker (these are his own words) based in Cuenca, Spain which is a beautiful city just to the southeast of Madrid. Jaén builds both traditional guitars (mostly semi-hollow and hollowbody archtops) and unusual (again, his own words) instruments. Instruments from the latter category are mostly his own designs, mainly for guitar shows, while others come from audacious proposals from players. Jaén, like TFOA, likes to conduct his business with a personal touch. That is why he drove all the way from Spain to show us this brandnew Siracusa 16" archtop. We were so impressed by this instrument we quickly shook hands and are now very excited to put it on offer for you! What became immediately apparent when meeting Jaén is that he is very meticulous when it comes to his instruments. Every little detail has been carefully planned out and painstakingly crafted. He demands nothing but perfection. This is why I think I should mention that if you want an extensive description of this guitar from the builder himself you should check out this page on his website dedicated to this guitar. For now we'll just stick with the highlights. On his website, Jaén describes the Siracusa 16 as "100% acoustic, 100% electric". Now this is not the first time we have heard this claim, but it is the first time we can fully corrobarate it! Both amplified and acoustic it has a distinct character which will make you question if the sound is either acoustic or electric. The 16" wide body was crafted using fantastic Carved zebrano for the back, bent zebrana sides and a carved European spruce top with a unique and graceful soundhole which runs along the bass side from the waist almost all the way to the upper bout. Both of these tonewoods make the instrument supremely responsive. The comfortable C-shaped neck is a 3-piece made out of curly maple with a 25,5" scale length, stainless steel frets, curly/mottled ebony fretboard and absolutely amazingly consealed Gotoh "Stealth" machines embedded in the headstock and covered with a thin layer of carbon-fiber re-enforced ebony. The humbucking pickups with ebony covers are also of his own making and have almost been seamlessly integrated with the ebony pickguard, the entire unit was also re-enforced with carbon-fiber. The controls consits out of individual volume- and tone controls for both pickups, a 3-way pickup selector and a coil-split functionality. The last innovative features I want to mention are the fully adjustable ebony bridge (please read the blog post about this on his website, I cannot begin to properly explain how it works), and the tailpiece which also serves as a ground for the strings (also comes with its own blog post). Included with the guitar is a Hiscox Hardshell case. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
