Levin / Royal Archtop / 1944 / Guitar

Levin Royal Archtop from 1944. The Levin Royal Archtop (or from 1947 onwards the Model 3 Royal) was introduced by the legendary Swedish brand in circa 1940. The Royal model remained largely unchanged throughout its entire livecycle with only some minor changes in specifications. This specimen was built in 1944, shortly after moving to the larger former Rörstrands Porcelain Factory in Göteborg in the summer of 1943. One might imagine the energy, hope and inspiration that a new factory and a rapidly rising demand for intstruments brought the Levin workforce which at that time was 70 men strong. This instrument has contained within it at least some of that spirit, its 16.5" wide body was carefully crafted using a hand-carved Romanian Spruce top, maple sides and hand-carved maple back adorned with a sunburst finish and black/white bindings. Typical for post-1943 Royal models is that they feature a 3-piece mahogany/maple neck and pearloid inlays on the fingerboard and headstock instead of mother of pearl. This all original Royal sounds mature, punchy and direct with a distinct warm and embracing character which will envelop and enchant you from the instant you pick it up. It is also in fantastic "good" condition; It is very, very clean for its age with some expected signs of use most noticable on the fingerboard which does not affect playability whatsoever. It does have a repaired side-crack, newer frets and a refinished spot in the top finish which all is not surprising in the context of its age. What's more important is that is still feels, plays and sounds like it should and that it comes in the original hardshell case!  Specifications  Model: Royal Finish: Sunburst Body Material: Hand Carved Maple back, maple sides Top Material: Hand Carved Romanian spruce Lefty No Body Details: black/white body bidings and trim, triple bound black floating pickguard Neck Material: Mahogany Neck Profile: C-shape Fingerboard Material: Rosewood Fingerboard Radius: Flat Neck Details: Pearloid 'Block' inlays, pearloid headstock logo inlay, black/white fingerboard and headstock bindings Nutwidth: 42 mm - 1 5/8" Scale Length: 628 mm - 24 3/4" Bridge: Compensated Ebony Tailpiece: Trapeze "Royal" tailpiece Pickups: None Tuners: Grover Sta-Tite style tuners Controls: None Condition: Good Cosmetic Condition: Very, very clean for its age. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
