Martin / 000-28 Herringbone / 1943 / Natural / Guitar For Sale
SCALLOPED BRACED GEM FROM MARTIN'S GOLDEN ERA .. STUNNING BRAZILIAN!!
When i grew up playing in the 1960s my go to guitar was always a Martin D-28 but as i got older ... started writing and got in the studios i realized that the absolute most balanced voiced acoustic guitar for me was and STILL is the 000-28 with Brazilian sides and back (or any Brazilian 000 model 21-45) .This 1943 (842XX) almost crack free example has THE most wonderful round voice ever (1 very small top crack near the bass side waste going nowhere) . Ds are wonderful in the room but 000s are the deal when you are making memories.
I am seeing a lot on the market asking 30-35K and refinished for 24k so you may be wondering why this one is more reasonably priced. In it's early life this guitar like just about every other old Martin had a neck reset. When it was done instead of contouring and refretting the original board it appears the luthier changed it instead. At least that is what appears to have taken place. 000-28s DID go to dots sometimes in 1944 and this looks like it could have been either or but we're thinking it is a changed board. The side dots are so old and yellowed that it looks original. All original braces and small maple bridgeplate. (the heart)
BIG MONSTER VOICE AND IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION Unlike many wartime Martins that came with plastic button tuners this one was lucky enough to get the Grover "stay tites" Also noteworthy that many collectors consider 1943 one of the best years on these for spruce!! Action plays great and by no means needs any attention that way. There is a little saddle left but it plays perfect. One day maybe but not today!! :-) Comes with a newer Martin deluxe hard shell case.
