Martin / 018K Koa 12 Fret / 1931 / Guitar For Sale

The 018K was built between 1918 and 1935. It was Martin's best-selling Hawaiian model and sold well during the Hawaiian craze of the 1920s, keeping pace with the standard 018 in certain years. The 12-fret construction, characteristic of this early period, combined with the bold use of Koa makes this instrument extra special. The Koa top and the Koa back and sides are beautifully framed by mahogany binding and embellished with a multi-stripe purfling. Inside the body we can find a stamp that says 'Made for gut and silk strings', but as you can see this 018K is currently in use as a steel string guitar. The guitar is light as a feather and the sound of this 018K is exactly what you would expect from a full Koa guitar - warm and sweet in the midrange, with surprising definition in both the bass and the treble. The 'scalloped' X-bracing, typical of this period, provides an exceptional response and a beautiful dynamic that brings out every nuance in your playing. The V-shaped mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard offers a surprisingly modern playing experience for a guitar from this period due to its compound radius. This Martin is an impressive example of the craftsmanship of the early 30s. It has some playwear and dings, but looks exceptionally clean for a guitar that is over 90 years old! It has had a neck reset and two patches reinforce the top at the center seam. The guitar is in very good condition and comes with a hardshell case and TFOA passport. A unique opportunity to own a rare piece of Martin history!

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
