Martin / D-18 / 2002 / Natural / Guitar
The D-18 is on of Martin’s most popular and highly regarded dreadnoughts. With it’s simple yet elegant aesthetics this all solid guitar has been around since the 30’s. This particular guitar is from 2002 and it immediately amazed me with it’s rich tone and stellar playability. It has clearly been played allot over the years, and therefor has really opened up and has a deep and warm matured voice. It’s also an incredibly resonant instrument, in part due to it’s relatively light weight I think. I always seem to fancy the lighter ones, as I feel they seem to ring out more and have greater dynamic response.. but that’s just me..
Overall this D-18 is in very good condition with just some light playwear from regular usage, mostly some pick-scratches. The neck feels very comfy and has worn in nicely. There is a blanc spot around the cowboy-chord area, but overall the guitar is very clean. Frets are in perfect condition and only show some modest wear. Structurally the guitar is 100% sound, and it has that typical feel and liveliness you’ll only find on a well played in guitar. Though it’s not a vintage guitar, is has that kind of “mojo” going on and you just feel right at home on it.
The D-18 is a wonderful no-thrills dread, so it’s all about tone here, and this is simply an exceptional instrument! A under-saddle bridge pickup has been installed which sounds very good, and the guitar travels in a generic case.
