Martin / D-41 Porter Wagoner / 2008 / Indian Rosewood / Guitar
This unique Martin Dreadnaught guitar is a Limited Run “Wagonmaster” Custom Edition from 2008 & was designed to commemorate the life and music of Mr. Wagoner, (1927-2007), one of the most important progenitors of modern country music. We purchased it as a fan of Marty Stuart (personally signed inside) and Porter Wagoner (also signed inside). She’s made w/a solid Englemann Spruce top, stunning solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides, a Style 45 rosette, grained ivoroid binding, abalone pearl with B/W/B boltar on top inlay, select mahogany neck, 14-fret Ebony fingerboard w/scalloped hexagon inlays, solid East Indian rosewood headstock overlay w/choice colorful abalone “Martin” block logo inlay, three-per-side Gotoh gold open-geared tuners with butterbean buttons, ebony bridge w/its rustic Wagon Wheels inlaid, she also sports a very special Porter Wagoner tortoise pickguard, having two labels (one signed by Wagoner and Stuart and one w/a pic of Porter having its “Wagonmaster” # 67 in the series). Fanciful and fun, it has the largest and wildest pickguard we have ever seen on a new Martin guitar – taking the form of an asymmetrical bat with wings outstretched ! This would be a Delmar tortoise color pickguard that is beveled and polished. Sparkling touches abound including attractive abalone stars – Martin calls them “scalloped hexagons” – inlaid in its crème-bound ebony fretboard. You can’t miss that majestic abalone top border and soundhole rosette make this something very special. Its tome is as good and any 70 year old D-28 w/bold bass notes & piano like treble tones fill the room up ! Its near mint overall having almost no wear & comes in a nice molded hard case.
