Mesa Boogie / Mark IIA * Figured Exotic Hardwood Cab * Wicker Grill * Graphic EQ * RCA 6L6GC / 1979 / Hardood / Amp For Sale
RARE 1979 Mesa Boogie Mark IIA * Figured Exotic Hardwood Cab * Wicker Grill * Graphic EQ * RCA 6L6GC Valves * Footswitch * Flightcase *
This has been my personal amp for over 26 years. She has never skipped a beat in all that time. She's never had a repair or service or anything in that time, I've never even had the valves replaced.
Now, having decided to let her go, I put her in for a full service with Roland Lumby (Jonny Marr, The Verve and Nile Rogers etc). So she now looks and sounds even better than ever and is ready for her new owner.
Year of manufacture is written on the underneath of the chassis - Nov 1979 (Serial No - 4512).
I understand her to be a Model IIA. Roughly 2,500 units where produced between 1978-1980, though I'm not sure how many of these would have been the fully loaded wood-cab flavour.
This model has the channel switching (I have an aftermarket Mesa Boogie footswitch included). There is also an input jack on the underside of the chassis that can accommodate a two button footswitch, this switches the gain boost and/or eq.
Spec includes: 100/60 Watt, Hardwood Cab, Wicker Grill, 200 Watt EV Speaker, Reverb, EQ.
The hardwood cab is beautiful. I'm not 100% sure what wood species it is, but there are many areas of beautiful figuring. I'd say that with exception of the highly figured models Mesa Boogie produce these days... this is by far the best looking and highly figured hardwood cab I've seen on any model similar to this from the 70s 80s and 90s.
As mentioned above, I have never had the valves changed, simply because I never had any reason to. Roland made a point on commenting that although the valves are very old they all tested good! How old, I'm not sure. These are the ones that came with the amp when I purchased her and they could be original but I can't confirm this.
Two of the main valve's look to be 'Sovtek 6L6 5881'. The other two look to be 'RCA 6L6GC Black Plate' - if that's correct then these RCA tubes are some of the best you can get, and originals such as these are being offered for around $350 per tube!
She sounds absolutly flipping amazing.
She is fully flight cased.
