National / Duolian / 1937 / Chrome / Guitar
Folks, this is what the blues roots are made of. A 1937 National Duolian like this one will take you right back to the Mississippi Delta if you’re a slide guy, but man can it do the job in the RnR world.
This absolute beauty is 80 years old. You’d probably be more than happy if you looked half this good ’n sexy at half that age :) The guitar oozes mojo, style, and tone. It has an added single coil pickup (with a volume control) that sounds absolutely phenomenal, even better than the guitar unplugged, which is crazy. You just won’t believe how sweet it is.
The guitar has a few mods: added pickup in the body, added jack and volume knob, Grover tuners and probably replaced headstock decal. It probably worn off and somebody decided to cut a National emblem and glue it there, because the headstock finish is original, so it wasn’t refinished or even touched up. The finish on the back of the neck seems to have been either worn down, or it has been sanded down a bit, but there is still original finish there (as the blacklight shows). The headstock retains the original finish.
I’m guessing the guitar was probably refretted at some point. Serial number A47XX indicates 1937. This is a round headstock, 12th fret Duolian, with the original biscuit and resonator (which sounds great and shows no breaks or tears). It plays wonderfully and does not need a neck reset.
The guitar does have its wear, but you can see its very honest playwear. Yes, there is a mark of a repositioned upper strap button (currently there’s no upper strap button). Chrome looks very nice.
It’s currently setup for slide guitar, with open D tuning. I can’t stress enough how incredible this resonator sounds!
This is your chance to grab a piece of the Delta and make it yours.
Guitar Giraffe, Spain
In the last few years, online sale for musical instruments has experienced an amazing growth, but has passed right through the pre-owned market (that is, in Spain), limiting it to specialised forums and private owners. This is why Guitar Giraffe was born, the first physical and online second hand guitar and amp store (we like to call it "pre-owned", since we see a big difference between both terms), with a clear commitment of giving new options to guitarists locally and worldwide. Pre-owned guitar stores, so common in UK and USA, were practically nonexistent in Spain. We’ve wanted to fill that empty space by becoming the first physical and online store in our country focused on pre-owned guitars and amps.
