National NRP 14th Fret Green Burst w/ National Slimline Pickup

The original Duolian arrived in 1930 as National’s basic steel-bodied, single-cone guitar and soon became famous for its musical sound. Our NRP Series replicates the vintage Duolian — and these modern reissues surpass most old ones in quality, playability, and even tone. The thin-gauge steel body is period-correct, featuring flat-cut f-holes, traditional sieve resonator coverplate, and a formed back. Still, no two NRP guitars are alike: The bodies are finished with a multi-stage, hand-textured finish for an individual look and semi-smooth surface profile that emulates the original Duolians. The mahogany neck with truss rod is capped by an unbound ebony fretboard complete with mother-of-pearl position markers. Vintage-style plain tuners, ebony nut, and “National” stamped into the slotted headstock complete the look of this classic. But it’s the trademark sound that makes these guitars so special — almost like a ghostly evocation of the best vintage 1930s Duolian. The sound is powerful and loud, while still being deep and warm. Like the hallowed originals, the NRP is steeped in mojo.

The National Slimline pickup was designed by National Reso-Phonic Guitars, Inc. and Villex®Electronics

This dual-coil humbucking thinline pickup, measuring .215” thick, is designed to be affixed to the top of a guitar at the end of the fretboard. You can route the lead wire inside or outside of the guitar body. The first mounting style is to affix the pickup using the provided 3M®double-stick tape and route the wire outside of the guitar to the endpin. This mounting technique requires no modification to your instrument. The second mounting technique offers two options--run the lead wire through the soundhole inside the body, or drill a 1/8” hole underneath the pickup and run the wire internally. In either case, the lead wire is then hardwired to the provided ¼” jack that must be permanently mounted in the desired location.

This National Slimline pickup incorporates all of the best qualities of an extremely warm sounding humbucker, while still being microphonic enough to amplify the nuances of the actual resonator vibrations. You can hear the tonal differences between a Tricone and a Single-cone set up exactly the same.
