This wonderful example of Rickenbacker’s 2nd iteration of its 381 model has just come back to our shop after a 24 year sabbatical w/a personal client of ours for the past 30 years. It’s in stunning all original shape sporting its dark rich Fireglo finish that has hardly even faded. Its carved top & back features beautiful checkerboard binding on every edge of its body. It has a crushed pearl inlaid fingerboard w/near perfect frets. It has a set of Toaster pickups that appear to have been removed at some point & returned prior to our ownership the 1st time in 1995. Its got an “XX” serial # on its input jack plate which could represent it being an experimental 381 as this 2 letter code usually dates it to a particular month & year. All of its pots have date codes to the 26th week of 1969. Its double lined Kluson Deluxe tuners, bridge & tailpiece are all excellent too. She has only slight yellowing to its white outer layer surrounding its checker bound top. Otherwise this is 1 crazy cool all original piece of Rickenbacker history. These cool late 60’s top of the line 381’s are among the rarest Rick’s ever produced w/ approximately 26 ever made over a 3-4 year period. Its even got an original rare Silver Tolex /Blue lined hard case.
