The Rickenbacker model 4001 basses have a very large following of players. Theirssound is more cutting and piano than the Fender bass, making them choose frommusicians very distant from each other, by Paul McCartney (who abandoned 'temporarily his beloved Hofner Violin Bass for a 4001, he painted it in colorpsychedelics and I use it for the last Beatles works), Geddy Lee of the Rush, JohnEntwistle of the Who, Chris Squire, virtuoso of the bass with the Yes of the 70s, andeven Motorhead's Lemmy. Actually, Lemmy's bass choice is more dueto chance: '' The Hawkwind were doing an outdoor concert, one summer day,and the bassist did not show up. So they said: 'Who plays the bass?' 'And someoneHe indicated to me. They hung a Rickenbacker around my neck and they said 'Go!'
