Rickenbacker / Rickenbacker 59 Lapsteel 1937 Ivory Enamel / Stringed Instrument

Rickenbacker 59 Lapsteel 1937 Ivory Enamel

In the late ‘30s this was Rickenbackers entry-level lapsteel but it doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap at all. They were stamped out of steel butlook rather luxurious with a finely textured enamel finish that looks like lace. Apart from some light arm wear the finish is very well preserved. The early horseshoe pickup has a similar textured cover in black, the other black partsare Bakelite and still in great shape. The low serial and the single volumecontrol date this lap steel firmly in 1937. It is still very playable, thepickup is strong and the hollow metal construction gives her abeautiful whiny voice.

The stitching that held together the original alligator case hasdeteriorated completely so the case has become a bit of a DIY kit but it’s still complete and it can be restored completely.
