Rickenbacker / Rose Morris 1998 "Pete Townsend" / 1966 / Rare “Autumnglo” Finish / Guitar
This is one of the most desirable all original 1998 models made famous by Pete Townsend of the Who. He broke at least a dozen of the 50 made for the UK Market as his early fame on stage went wild. Its ultra rare “Autumnglo” finish has a neat Black to Red color ‘burst, the 1st we’ve encountered, has taken on a wonderful patina & fade. Its sharp cutaway body has a two-piece maple top and a two-piece maple back with the infamous single Rose Morris “F” shaped sound hole. Its neck is a 3-piece maple/walnut/maple neck with a nut width of just under 1 5/8″, a scale length of 25″ and a wonderful medium profile. Its Brazilian rosewood unbound Dot inlaid fingerboard has twenty-one original medium-thin frets. She’s got 3 powerful “Toaster” pickups with chrome covers. She’s sporting her original White pickgards w/a matching White Truss Rod Cover. Its Individual ‘single-line’ Kluson Deluxe tuners with oval metal buttons are near perfect shape. Its sports 5 Black Vol. & Tone knobs. The potentiometers are stamped “137 6601” from the 1st week of 1966). Inside its control cavity is Rick’s marker stating its “345” 3 pickup configuration. Its got its original bridge and cool Ac’cent Vibrato tailpiece (repop vibrato arm on the way). The serial # “FB” is stamped onto the double “Rick-O-Sound” and “Standard” jack plate being completed February 1966. What makes this so special is its THE MOST recognized guitar Pete Townsend has ever played out live in their earliest days. To own an original mid-60’s 1998 instead of a 90’s PT Reissue (which is still a rather expensive guitar today) is simply unimaginable so don’t wait long to grab it. She’s excellent overall & completely original. Included is its original Silver tolex/Blue lined hard case.
