Selmer / Petit Bouche / 2010 / Guitar

Ever fancied an original Selmer petit bouche from the 40's but was put off by the price, playability, stability or the various cracks that often appear? Well you should have a close look at this one as everyone who has seen it thought it was an original 40's. Here is the story...

See below for a great video demo of this guitar by professional Gypsy Jazz guitarist Lewis Dickenson

Back in 2010 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Django Reinhardt's birth,Selmer decided to commission 10 more guitars each of which have a unique serial number from the original series that for some reason, were never allocated.

To make these 10 guitars Selmer commissioned the celebrated maker Jean Barault to build them and age to perfection. This one is number 586 and is stunning! The obsessive attention to detail on this guitar is beyond belief and the sound is as good as it gets - you get this as soon as you look at it and try this amazing instrument out.

You really need to look at the photos to see what we are referring to. We have seen every kind of Custom Shop aging or relicing by all the famous master craftsmen or replica builders for the solid body we have sold but this one is really in its own league.

Although we have only sold a handful of the original 40's Selmer original guitars this one looks and feels identical to these originals and everyone who has seen it so far, just stares in disbelief when we tell them it was made in 2010..!

We are having a demo recorded this week so we hope to be able to put this on the listing next week so you can hear how it sounds but we do not think anyone will be disappointed in that department.

Jean Barault's work is totally mind blowing even to the extent of replicating the original Selmer label inside the guitar with its unique serial number (586). He also replicated the headstock logo, the tuners, bridge and tailpiece etc. Just have a look at the pics to see what we are referring to.

It does of course have a walnut neck with its unique join just like the originals, rosewood back and sides and the finest quality spruce top with a carved ebony bridge.

It plays like butter, in fact it plays better than any of the originals we have had here and is a real joy behold and to listen to. We had it quietly exhibited on our booth at the recent London Guitar Show and even amongst all the normal guitar show din, you could hear this across the room...

Make an appointment, come down and see this for yourself. You will be amazed and will probably fall in love with this. There are only ten of these guitars in the world and we cannot quite believe we have one of them here in our showroom... for now anyway.
