Sergei De Jonge / DDN0704 / 2009 / Guitar For Sale

Sergei de Jonge was a student of Jean Larrivee and as such has worked alongside other great luthiers such as William "Grit" Laskin.

Sergei's current shop is in Chelsea, Quebec where he also teaches a luthery course.

"This shape was a tough one for me. I never liked using shapes that weren’t my own and my kids (who are very involved in guitar making) wouldn't let me build a Martin style dreadnaught. That said, however, the demand for the shape was there and I have a certain liking for dreadnaughts anyway. So I drew my own design for a dreadnaught shape.

The result? At first glance definitely a dreadnaught. On closer inspection, although the body measurements are the same, the curves are different - more rounded. The waist is still quite flat but a little more curved - it doesn't slide around on your knee as much as a traditional dreadnaught."
The instrument was built in 2009, but has never been owned or played.
