While Bill Asher, who has been making guitars since 1982, is best known for making lap steel guitars (especially the ones played by Ben Harper), Asher Guitars has two models of solid-body electric guitars available as well: the Ultra Tone and the Electro Sonic.
Asher guitars are known for having Bill Asher's trademark attention to detail-- the luthier personally completes each final setup. The highly-customizable Ultra Tone is Asher's nod to vintage Telecasters, while the Electro Sonic was created so that the resonance of the lap steel could be mimicked by bottleneck and standard guitar players. Both models have a warm sound that will trigger nostalgia in classic rock fans.
Asher guitars have been played throughout the music industry by artists such as Don Henley, PJ Harvey, Jackson Browne, and Bonnie Raitt. Marc Ford (solo artist and former member of The Black Crowes) currently plays an Asher Ultra Tone.
