The D-28 is a favorite of ours that’s consistently wonderful year after year in all respects. This wonderful example was built 1955, one of a total of only 806 D-28s shipped that year. It incorporates typical post-war Martin style 28 features including this lovely red striped Brazilian Rosewood on the back and sides, a superb straight-grained spruce top, Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and multi layer celluloid body binding. Its tortoise pickgard is stunning. The neck is mahogany w/a fairly slim soft “V” profile, the fingerboard inlay is mixed size dots and the tuners are original Kluson nickel “Waffle Backs” w/some cool metal buttons. This example has seen just a bit of use, has some back scratches yet remains cleaner and more original than most from this period. It is an excellent fingerpicker’s instrument but also has a lot of punch and clarity as a straight rhythm machine as well. She’s had 1 side crack repaired quite well & its very unnoticable. Otherwise she's crack free. She plays beautifully & sounds fabulous. Overall she’s exceptionally clean & comes in a nice new Martin hard case.
