Fender / Stratocaster / 1966 / Blonde / Guitar For Sale
Now available on consignment, an early 1966 Fender Stratocaster in its original Blonde finish over an ash body.
This is a fantastic all original example of a custom colour Fender Stratocaster, with transitional features including an early big headstock with the transition headstock logo, 'F' serial number plate, pearl dot inlays on an Indian rosewood fingerboard, and factory large frets (only seen in late '65/early '66).
This example presents in its original Blonde finish over an ash body (only seen on Blonde guitars) which is exceedingly rare for this period. The finish shows some checking and yellowing to the clearcoat, as well as plenty of play wear from years of use.
It appears early in the guitar's life a Fender 'body guard' was fitted to the back, this was removed long ago along with some finish by a previous owner at some point. The finish is otherwise original with no touchup or overspray.
The wiring appears to be all untouched with all 3x CTS pots dating to the 49th week of '65, the original grey bottom pickups dating to February, and the 3-way switch is still in place. All of the hardware and plastics remain original to the guitar, and the neck dates to January making this a fairly early example with the larger headstock.
The factory large frets play very well despite some wear, and the guitar has been recently setup with 10-46 strings. One of the best playing and sounding mid 60s Fender Stratocasters we have had in the shop!
Includes its original black tolex Fender case, tremolo arm, and backplate.
