Eind jaren zeventig was de Telecaster vooral populair in de Deluxe of Custom uitvoering met één of twee humbuckers maar ook de standaardversie werd nog gemaakt. Ten opzichte van de vroegere uitvoeringen hebben deze gitaren wat afgerondere contouren, zwarte slagplaten en een essenhouten body.
De gitaren Fender uit deze periode zijn vaak wat aan de zwaardere kant, en dit exemplaar is geen uitzondering. Hij is verder in erg goede staat met nauwelijks gebruikssporen en fretslijtage en heeft een zeer uitgesproken donkere, bijna tobacco sunburst. De slagplaat is ooit vervangen maar verder is de gitaar nog volledig origineel. Opvallend is dat deze gitaar op de headstock een S8 (1978-) serienummer draagt maar potmeters uit vroeg 1981 heeft. Het ziet ernaar uit dat er een aantal jaren hebben gezeten tussen de bouw van de hals en body en de daadwerkelijke assemblage en uitlevering van de gitaar. Daarom is het bouwjaar op 1981 gesteld, ondanks dat de gitaar vanaf de buitenkant overkomt als een 1978 gitaar.
