Gerundino Fernandez / 1a Flamenca Negra / 1985 / Guitar

A beautiful flamenco guitar built by the famous Gerundino Fernández, born in Almería in 1931. He is the perfect example of a self-taught luthier, and together with his brother Eladio, who provided him with the best woods, he was one of the most renowned craftsmen in the world. There are many artists who use or have used his guitars, such as Vicente Amigo, Tomatito, Joaquín Amador, Raimundo Amador or Paco Peña.
He won the first prize and the prize for the best acoustic guitar in the International Unesco Competition of Guitar builders in Paris, 1988.
The selection of woods used for this instrument is: german pine spruce of exceptional sound quality and with top quality grain for the soundboard, and stunning Madagascar rosewood for the body (sides and back), its features beautiful, almost impossible to find nowadays… The woods were provided by his brother Eladio, who owned woods of unbeatable quality.
Thanks to the perfect selection of woods Gerundino used on this instrument, its sound is absolutely extraordinary, offering exquisite depth and power on the bass strings, together with crystalline and clean trebles, as well as enviable balance and projection. The sound is that typical and exclusive to Gerundino, absolutely extraordinary.
Gerundino passed away in 2006.
The guitar has strings of medium tension and perfect action for performance. It plays with great ease. The scale length is 660 mm and the nut width 52 mm.
