Gibson / Byrdland SB Sunburst Near Mint / 2015 / Guitar

In a time when new music genres were being explored by musicians in the 1950's, there was a profound interest in a hollowbody that had familiar look and tone, but with a little twist to give them some new inspiration. This resulted in Gibson consulting with Nashville session musicians Billy Byrd and Hank Garland to create the Gibson Byrdland, and it was finally released in 1955. The Byrdland still had the traditional carved solid-spruce arched top and big 17" body like its predecessor the L-5CES, but was quite a bit thinner, at only 57mm deep. The Gibson Byrdland was also made with a shorter scale length, but still boasted all the luxury features of the top-of-the-line Gibson archtop guitars. With the Byrdland’s thin neck and 597mm scale some might have seen it as a “student model” model, but it was entirely done for added speed and playing ease. Its five-ply binding, ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlay, gold-plated hardware, and triple-loop Byrdland trapeze tailpiece also meant you could not mistake it for a student model. In 1955 the Byrdland was equiped with Alnico V single-coil pickups, But in 1957 the Byrdland was upgraded to PAF humbucking pickups and that is the incarnation which remains the most popular. Together with the traditional independent volume and tone controls and a three-way selector switch, these pickups gave the Byrdland the ability to go from a smooth mellow tone to a hot, piercing twang. This instrument made in the Custom Crimson Devision today offers the finest original-spec version of this classic model that has been available since its production of the late 1950s. Take for example the select maple and walnut used in its neck or the high-grade spruce of its top, no expense is spared to make this a thinline electric guitar that Hank Garland and Billy Byrd would be proud of. Details such as the pearl flower-pot headstock inlay, multi-ply fingerboard binding, rounded Venetian cutaway, multi-ply bound pickguard, bound f-holes, and sculpted fingerboard end are all true to the original. In the electrics department, a pair of Gibson’s popular ’57 Classic humbucking pickups keep it all sounding as good as it looks. The Byrdland includes the original Custom Shop case and Certificate of Authenticity. In near mint condition, looks and feels very clean, with angelhair signs of use.   Model Features: Model Byrdland Crimson custom Body Material carved flamed maple Top Material carved pruce Weight ca. 3kg Finish Nitro cellulose sunburst finish Neck Material Flamed maple 3 piece Neck Profile C shape Fretboard ebony bound with block inlay Bridge ebony base and ABR gold bridge Scale                                                           597mm (23.5nch)                      Nut Width 43mm (1 11/16 Inch) Binding L5 style full ornate binding Tuners Kluson Pickup Gibson Travels in Original Deluxe Hardshell Case

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand.
