Gibson / Country Western / 1964 / Guitar For Sale

The Gibson Country Western debuted in 1954 as the Southern Jumbo Natural, the natural-finished version of the popular Southern Jumbo. From 1955 onward, the model was called the Country Western, with which Gibson clearly distinguished the sunburst and natural versions. For years, the Country Western retained the slope-shoulder body shape so characteristic of Gibson, but in 1963, a significant change was announced. That year, Gibson introduced the square-shoulder version, a design that gave the Country Western a more powerful and modern character. This 1964 guitar is therefore a beautiful example of the updated model in its first full year of production. The transition to the square shoulder brought more than just a visual change. The body shape provides more powerful projection and a more tightly defined bass tone compared to its slope-shoulder predecessor. The combination of a solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides delivers a warm, balanced tone that characterizes the midrange of Gibson dreadnoughts. The pointed Hummingbird-style pickguard became standard equipment this year, instantly giving the Country Western a recognizable look. The adjustable bridge saddle also made its debut, offering practical playability for the guitarist. The guitar has a comfortable C-profile mahogany neck, with a rosewood fingerboard that fits comfortably under the fingers. This 1964 Country Western is in excellent condition and has accumulated the light playwear and patina expected of a guitar over sixty years old. The finish has been polished to a beautiful gloss, and some minor cracking is visible. A crack on the top between the neck and the soundhole has been repaired, and a cleat has been glued in inside the body to stabilize it. The black-painted heel and shoulders are also striking; this is likely a cosmetic touch-up after a neck reset. The original Kluson Deluxe tuners are still present and contribute to the authentic vintage look. The guitar was once fitted with an LR Baggs Anthem and a K&K Pure mini, but these didn't provide the desired amplified sound. Therefore, a soundhole pickup is recommended for amplification. The acoustic tone is exactly what you'd expect from a vintage Gibson dreadnought from this period: warm, full, and with that typical dry, woody characteristic that only comes from decades of resonance.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out.
