One of the best sounding 335's we've come across in a long time. A killer looking and playing 'Clapton spec' model with a stunning tone.
Looks wise the photos say it all. It's in very good condition with a vibrant, deep cherry finish. Weighing in at 8.4lbs it's really comfortable to play, the nut is full width and the neck overall feels nice and wide with just the right amount of depth to it being on the slimmer side of a medium 'C'. It plays effortlessly and really nails that Cream era tone. The original Pat No. short magnet 'PAFs' are well balanced, airy, harmonically rich and have fantastic sustain. The neck pickup is warm, woody, pokey and balanced while the bridge pickup offers more cut whilst retaining the woodiness and harmonic complexity.
It is a factory stoptail model and has at some point had a Maestro trem fitted leaving two visible holes by the strap button. The hardware is original, with an original ABR-1 nickel 'no wire' bridge and original stop tailpiece. The bridge has foundry mark and correct tooling marks for the period but the bass and treble of the underside have been shaved a little in the past.
The loom is solder intact with Stackpole pots dating to the 8th week of '63, and it retains its original black beauty cap. The pickups have had their covers off at some point but are otherwise untampered with.
It's had a new clear coat at some point in its past. It was obviously done a while ago as it's aged nicely showing attractive crazing to the top of the body and front of the headstock. There are filled holes to the rear of the headstock where it once had different style tuners installed but an original set of double ring/double line Klusons have since been reinstated. It's been refretted and the nut has been changed too along with some of the bridge saddles.
All in all a stunning looking, playing and sounding vintage 335 with a very desirable spec. Comes with non-original hard shell case.
