Gibson / J-55 / 1973 / Guitar

Gibson J-55 1973 - a special guitar with unique Dreadnought sound!

Gibson launched the J-55 dreadnought in 1939. Back then the guitar had round shoulders, mahogany back and sides, Tortoise pickguard, ebony fingerboard, mustache bridge, sunburst finish and binding.
This first version has been produced from 1939 to 1942.

In 1973, Gibson reintroduced this quality model, with quare shoulders and arched back.

We are happy to present this nice Gibson J-55 from 1973 in natural finish and with a Tortoise pickguard.
It is a fairly rare instrument among Gibson's vintage acoustics. The nut width is 43 mm.

It's a great sounding guitar with a large projection coming from an efficient x-bracing.
The arched back gives additional depth to the sound and makes it a nice guitar for strumming.

The guitar is in good condition for the age. It has a few vry small repairs. The guitar has received a neck reset and the action is comfortably low. The luthier who made the reset, decided to refinish the neck and a small part on the sides, where the neck meets the body.

It comes with the original hard case.

Vintage Guitar World was founded out of a deep passion for guitar playing and the lifelong search for truly special sound. For us, selling guitars is far more than a profession – it is a way of life. We love guitars, live music, and the stories that great instruments carry with them.

We specialize in classical guitars, flamenco guitars, and acoustic steel-string guitars. As our name suggests, our main focus is on vintage and historically significant instruments, but we also offer outstanding modern guitars by exceptional makers. Our goal is always the same: to present our customers with unique, high-quality guitars that stand out clearly in tone, character, and craftsmanship.

Every guitar we offer is carefully selected for its sound and musical qualities. No instrument enters our shop by chance. We believe that a great guitar must inspire the player from the very first note, whether it is a rare vintage piece or a modern handmade instrument.

Before any guitar is offered for sale, it is thoroughly checked and professionally adjusted. We work closely with experienced guitar builders and specialized repair shops to ensure that each instrument is structurally sound, optimally set up, and ready to be played at its full potential. Transparency and trust are essential to us, and we always describe instruments honestly and in detail.
