Gibson / Les Paul Deluxe / 1972 / Cherry Red / Guitar

This is (in our opinion) by far the BEST colour for a LP Deluxe and also the rarest of this period...

Much maligned but unsurprisingly Gibson's most popular model of the 1970s, the Les Paul Deluxe’s combination of mahogany body and twin mini humbuckers augmented the sonic palette of this classic instrument becoming the touchstone for 70’s tones.

This example just oozes mojo. The cherry looks stunning and has survived remarkably well. Interestingly, only 760 of the 5194 Deluxe’s shipped in 1972 were finished in cherry. The back of the 2 piece ‘pancake’ body is exquisite too. The black rings under the stoptail are referred to as ‘goof hiders’, a feature of post Norlin instruments and there to cover slight indescrepencies in the build process. This does not affect the tuning stability of the guitar.

The three piece mahogany neck shows very little signs of wear. The fretboard is in great shape. It's been refretted and a new nut fitted.

Plastics and hardware are in great shape with only some slight wear to be seen on the bridge.

Electronically everything looks correct with pots dated at week 51 of 1972.

The guitar comes with the correct  hardshell case.

The unamplified tone has plenty of sustain, as you’d expect from a good Gibson. The mini humbuckers bring a brightness without being as muddy as could be the case with full size humbuckers of the same period.

A stunning guitar that looks and sounds the part. Grab it before it get away…
