This 2011 Gibson SG '61 Reissue was manufactured as part of Gibson USA's core lineup to emulate the look and feel of the earliest SGs. It features a slim-taper neck profile, which is faster and thinner than many other Gibson models, and a small, vintage-style "teardrop" pickguard, correct to the 1961 design. Unlike some modern SGs with weight relief, this era of the '61 Reissue uses a solid mahogany body. The guitar is equipped with '57 Classic humbucker pickups, designed to capture the warm, full, and dynamic tone of the original "Patent Applied For" (PAF) humbuckers. The translucent cherry finish allows the mahogany grain to show through, adding to its vintage appeal. Notable artists who have famously wielded SGs (both vintage and reissues) include Angus Young of AC/DC, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Pete Townshend of The Who, and George Harrison of The Beatles.
