Gibson / Map Guitar / 1983 / Guitar For Sale
In 1983, the ‘Map Guitar’ was produced as a promotional model by Gibson. I acquired this particular example from the original owner, who purchased the guitar new in 1984.
It is, of course, a unique model, but it is also a surprisingly good guitar. Despite its shape, the guitar is well balanced. It is resonant and already has plenty of acoustic volume when played unplugged. The humbuckers sound very open and share some characteristics with a Gibson Firebird.
The neck is slightly slimmer at the lower frets, but becomes quite substantial further up the neck. It is perfectly set up with a low action and plays exceptionally well.
In 1983, Gibsons were still being built in the historic factory in Kalamazoo as well as in the newer factory in Nashville. This Map Guitar is one of the last guitars built in Kalamazoo.
The guitar is completely original and comes with a Gibson catalogue from 1983 (the Map appeared on the cover that year). It includes a sturdy but non-original hard case.
