Gibson / SG Standard / 1969 / Cherry Red / Guitar

Early 1969 Gibson SG Standard with no breaks or repairs and one piece neck. Super nice slim taper, classic SG profile and even has original late sixties oblong case and has no jack socket or cavity crack repairs which are unfortunately far too common on this model.

This SG. favoured by many a rocker, is everything you want in a classic, later 60’s axe with tons of character. It has been played, yes, but unlike a fair few out there it has not been abused to the extent of needing any major neck or headstock surgery. It is all correct except the pickups have been out, then back in and as a consequence of which some solder has been disturbed. It has also had a re-fret.

2 very cool sounding PAT number, sticker pickups reliably read 7.49k each and even though the covers have been off then back on, both are original with no rewinds.

Frets are in decent shape, it has had a refret with slightly taller frets than what had been on it from the factory but it is a decent job and it plays very well because of it with some good sustain for such a light guitar. Trem also works well and although you cannot dive bomb too easily, it does actually stay largely in tune and is perfectly usable on a day to day basis.

Guitar has the obvious signs of wear as you can see in the pictures and has been played, not kept in a closet. There are dings and marks all over and the original cherry red finish has faded to the typical and classic root beer shade. The neck pickup has a nut soldered on to its lugs probably because the original holes in the lugs were not holding the adjustment screws too well but whatever the original reason, it is now an effective repair.

Included is a nice, original late 60’s oblong case with a broken handle and some very cool stickers including the famous German CND sticker you used to see everywhere in the 70’s and 80’s. Guitar has been in Europe most of its life and judging from the stickers has has led an interesting life…

Good to see a 69 at this price point with no breaks or repairs and still having a one piece neck and correct case. We are sure it will look great slung around the neck of many a lively rock band who strive for that authentic classic rock sound…
