Gibson / Super 400 / 1937 / Sunburst / Guitar For Sale
Now available on consignment, a pre war 1937 Gibson Super 400 in its original sunburst finish!
This is a rare example of an early Gibson Super 400, being the absolute top of the line in the 1930s at $400 when new. It features an 18" wide body with a carved spruce top, solid flame maple back and sides, and a 2-piece maple neck with 3ply bound ebony fingerboard and script Gibson logo.
The guitar retains most of its original parts with exception of the low e tuner body (original tuner tip and post remain), and a professional refret with Gibson size wire. At some point 3x cracks were repaired on the back of the body by the lower bout, and a top crack was cleated under the pickguard. When the guitar came in there was some separation of the back around the neck heel, this has been carefully reglued by Sydney luthier Piers Crocker ready for another 80 years.
Other than mentioned the guitar retains its original parts and finish with no touchup or overspray. The original engraved 'Super 400' tailpiece, and neck heel inlay remain in great shape, as does the original 'marble' pickguard.
An incredible sounding early example of a Gibson Super 400, includes its original Lifton case.
