60's MEAZZI ZODIAC (RARE)  Original Vintage White Hard Cas code VA64

Meazzi History:

A futuristic guitar. In the immense field of Vintage, the most loved, sought after and paid for are American guitars. Their charm and sound quality are undisputed. But Italy, in its small way, has invented and built products that, perhaps, we do not know, but which, with the fame of "the best luthiers in the world", starting with violins and other ancient stringed instruments, reaches Marchi to which everyone has to do a lot of hat: EKO, to say the most famous. The ZODIAC e model dates back to 1964. A 2 pick-ups regulated by a 3-position selector one tone and one volume: very simple. Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard (thin and sliding with "D" profile) and alder body (alder), I guess, as the varnish is very thick and does not reveal the veins, but from the weight ... The headstock houses 6 simple and uncovered mechanics, and a circular string depressor like that of the Vintage Tele. Its shape is a cross between Tele and Strato. The neck has the ZERO FRETS, Italian and German tradition and is simply screwed on without a plate. But what amazes me most are the metal materials used: the bridge has stainless steel saddles of enormous size and weight compared to any other brand. Stainless steel vibrato lever also, easily engageable stopper of the sled strings. As a rope anchor and lever operation it is very reminiscent of the Bigsby. There are no traces of rust on this guitar: and how could they exist with these classy materials ?! Its sound is honest, aggressive, if you like, with the p.u. the bridge is soft, but not mixed, with the one on the neck, and the whole resembles the canvas in the same combination. In short, like everything in the world, you may like it or not, but Italian art and imagination are undisputed. Only the "inhabitants of this beautiful country" could invent such a line. Lili Zeller

At first sight, this Meazzi Zodiac looked to me like a small body travel guitar à la Eko Short Gun, then I found this picture of Swiss musician Lili Zeller playing the Zodiac (on, like usually when one needs info about Italian vintage guitars), and like me you can see that despite its unusual design, it's a well proportionate and well balanced instrument. I'm happy to have found this guitar today, it's exciting and inspiring, for both a musician and a guitar maker, not to mention a collector...

Unfortunately this one lacks its bridge and trem arm, but they should be easily replaceable, mostly if you take the opportunity to install an upgraded model of bridge, after all, what matters is how well it plays! Meazzi guitars had all you can expect from Italian vintage ones: odd designs, unique pickups and trems, strange controls and plenty of chromed plates! Meazzi started in the 1950s with Antonio Wandré Pioli for designer, who released his first instruments as Framez - a Meazzi sub-brand.
