Montuoro / Montuoro Guitar Co. Concert Style 6 / Guitar

This instrument is based off of a 1930 Maurer 541.
Essentially a 0012 fret guitar. I don't really
build many small guitars, but when I played the
original I was hooked. This particular guitar has an
enlarged soundhole just like the original. Choice
Adirondack soundboard and bracing with Brazilian
Rosewood back and sides. Note there is no binding on
the back. I have also replicated the Larson style wood
marquetry that they used throughout their career. The
purflings they used is a characteristic that sets
those guitars apart from Martin's and the like.

I am trying to replicate many of the Larson
instruments that I have come across in my tenure as a
luthier. The bros never scalloped their braces, which
I feel has much to do with their powerful projection
and tone. Nothing against scallop braced guitars of
course, but through my personal experience I have
found it favorable to not scallop. You may wind up
with a lighter braced top, but I feel that's not what
it's all about. Contrary to popular belief, the
Larson's built their guitars with thicker tops. Built
under tension at quite a severe radius that is equal
to the radius of the back.

I have uncovered a host of really cool mysteries
restoring their guitars. I try to apply this to the
instruments I build. No complaints thus far. If you
are looking for a Larson style instrument that you
feel is not attainable, look no further. I feel
confident that few can come as close to Larson guitars
as I can. A bold statement, yes, but I can back it up.
Many can build an instrument to look like a Larson,
but few can capture the true essence of what they were
really about. Truly!
