One of our favorite Bass Builders is Carl Thompson from Brooklyn in biz since 1974. One of Carl's best apprentices over the years was Pete Hilton whom worked for Carl for 10 years from 2003-2013. I tell ya what...Pete Hilton makes some great stuff ! This example is a recent Top Line 6-string Fretless Bass finished in a low gloss way to expose the woods natural qualities. Its construction is as nice as any boutique bass out there having a wonderful selection of striped wood patterns a la Carl's "Rainbow" take on Les Claypool's famous bass. Body woods include a mahogany core w/stripes of ebony, snakewood, bloodwood & Black Walnut front & back. Its Neck & Headstock are Mahogany w/a super figured Snakewood fingerboard like I've never seen w/subtle ebony fret markers. Its got a 36" scale & feels incredible. It has a matching set of gorgeous pickup covers, truss rod cover & knobs. Other details include Hipshot Tuners, handmade Alloy Bridge & Nut, 2 Kent Armstrong Soapbar Pickups w/an Aguilar OBP-3 Preamp that is as good as anything I've ever played. Its 2 pickups have a very unique funk tone that even Carl's basses lack. Its so smooth you'll not realize the frets are missing LOL. Its got great feel & tone. Its truly near mint & comes in a nice gig bag.
