The SL-5 is a model he co-designed with renowned live and session bassist Alfonso Carey of the Village People and Patti Labellle amongst others. It is a one of a kind build with the highest graded tone woods and top of the line parts including custom hand built/wired pre-amp & Bartolini Pickups. Everything was crafted to perfection and no CNC machines or pre-cut anything was used. The beauty of the bass itself starts with the grain of the Mahogany on the body that really has so much character and is quite eye catching. It has an exotic look along with the Quebracho fingerboard that really feels great and helps give it is amazing tone. This is quite literally a hand built guitar made by a world renowned and first class luthier that puts any factory made bass guitar to shame, the fit, finish and quality is unmatched by the assembly lines that just pump out stuff made mostly by machines and have only minimal hands on work done. Even the “Custom Shops” of some of the biggest names in the industry will begin their work with pre-cut bodies and necks. In the case of Alex Petrounov he takes the time to do everything from source and select the highest graded and most beautiful tone woods in the world. The often use old growth woods that are very old in order to deliver the best sounding instruments possible. When he builds something he has one goal above all else, that is to create the BEST sounding and playing guitar possible. He is a tone fanatic and perfectionist and that shows in everything he builds. The feel of the necks he makes and everything from the fretwork to truss rods are first class and always perfect.
