Roland Oetter / 12 String / 1978 / Natural / Guitar For Sale

The Roland Oetter story is a bit of a ‘what if’ story. As a talented luthier in the 70’s, Oetter was already held in high regard by his fellow German musicians, making one off guitars to order. Having produced only around 30 guitars he received an order from Joan Baez, the order that could transform his business, however before the guitar was completed Oetter was involved in a traffic accident, and died. I knew this story, but had never had one of his guitars until now – number 12 – and it was worth the wait. It has the feel of a proper boutique instrument, and the age to make it feel like a cool vintage guitar. It’s a dreadnought shaped 12 string, with German Spruce top and Indian Rosewood 3 piece back, and sides. The fingerboard and bridge are Ebony, and the headstock overlay is Brazilian Rosewood. The headstock shape is very like the Harptone guitars of the 60’s (famously played by David Bowie and George Harrison). As a dreadnought the bass is full, when you hit a G chord the sound fills the room, ringing beautifully and sustaining for ages. But this guitar sounds great right across the bandwidth, with a rich tone and great clarity. The guitar is in excellent condition, with a full feeling neck, and comfortable playing action, and has a Bridge Doctor fitted, which has clearly done it’s job, as the top is flat. It comes in it’s original hard case with very 70’s latches.

Welcome to Glenn's Guitars here on Vintage & Rare. After many years in the industry, and having been fortunate enough to have worked in Hanks and The Acoustic Centre - probably London's two foremost acoustic guitar shops - I decided to do my own thing.

I have a passion for used and vintage acoustic guitars; nearly new second hand guitars because they can represent a bargain compared to the price of a new guitar, older and vintage guitars because they tend to have more character and can often become an investment.

You will notice when viewing my stock list my taste in guitars, as I only sell guitars that I genuinely like - and there are certain brands noticeable by their absence. I am a huge fan of older Gibson, Martin and Guild acoustics, but also more boutique brands such as Lowden and Collings.

I will consider part exchange if it makes your desired guitar a little easier to afford. I also offer a guitar finding service, if there's something specific you're looking for.

If you are happy to buy over the internet, I will send you as many high resolution photos and as much information about the guitar you're interested in as I can. If you can get to me - I'm based in Enfield, only 30 minutes from London Liverpool Street Station - you can always make an appointment with me and come and try some of the guitars out first.

I accept payment by Paypal, bank transfer, cheque and of course cash.
