Fender / Bassman 6G6 Amp Head / 1963 / Rough White Tolex / Amp
This early 60’s era of Fender Amps has to be the most desirable period just after the Tweed amps were discontinued. This 1963 Bassman Head has the most preferred 6G6 circuitry. Its rough white Tolex is in great shape & its early production Wheat colored grill cloth is also quite clean. Its original tube chart is dated “LD” as its made in April 1962. This Brown Panel circuit has that magical “Presence Control” knobs that drives two vintage RCA 6L6 power tubes w/40 powerful watts of pure tube goodness. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brown Panel circuits respond extremely well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a broad sweep and at around 5 on the volume dial, the amp cascades into very rich, textured tube overdrive that compresses noticeably, with the added benefit of the “sag” germane to the 6G6 circuit’s tube rectified design. Other than its missing tolex back panel, she’s quite excellent overall & is ready to enjoy.
