Gibson / J50 / 1965 / Guitar For Sale

The first Gibson J50 saw the light of day in 1947, five years after its sunburst-finished brother J45. The well-known Slope Shoulder body shape gives the guitar its characteristic versatility with a warm and deep sound, excellent projection and unprecedented ease of play due to its short scale. The guitar is equipped with the well-known combination of a mahogany back and sides coupled with a Sitka spruce top, outlined by a three-piece binding and further decorated by a multi-line rosette. Finally, under the top we find a non-scalloped X-bracing. It is remarkable that the Gibsons from the '60s have a significantly thinner neck than the ones from the '50s, and we see that on this J50. However, the guitar does have the typical dry and 'woody' sound that we know so well from Gibson's workhorse, and this is of course a sound that every singer-songwriter dreams of. This J50 has also clearly experienced enough to accompany the heavy life stories with conviction! First of all, the guitar has the play marks and weather checking that you would expect from an instrument from the 60s, but of course some work has also been done to keep the guitar as playable as possible. For example, a crack in the center seam of the top has been repaired, and to stabilize it, a cleat has been glued to the inside of the body. We also see that the adjustable rosewood bridge saddle has been modified with a bone insert, and this has made the sound slightly clearer compared to the original. A refret has also been performed at some point, and the guitar now has fairly large frets that make it easy to play. It also now has a built-in K&K Pure Mini pickup, and we can see that a piezo pickup was also built in at some point. The guitar currently plays very well and sounds fantastic, but unfortunately has a problem with the truss rod that may require some more work to set up in the future. Nevertheless, this J50 is a very nice vintage guitar! Consignment.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
