Gibson / Southern Jumbo Spruce Mahogany Sunburst / 1966 / Guitar For Sale

The Gibson Southern Jumbo underwent a significant visual change in 1963, along with the Dove, Hummingbird, and Country Western. Instead of the slope shoulder construction that Gibson traditionally used, the brand opted for a revolutionary square shoulder design that offered more volume and projection. The model was positioned as an affordable version of the more expensive Hummingbird, but shared its characteristic pickguard shape with the iconic shape that has become so recognizable. This 1966 Southern Jumbo has the specifications that make the model so beloved by singer-songwriters and studio musicians. The combination of a Sitka spruce top and a mahogany back and sides provides a warm, balanced tone with excellent projection. The square shoulder design gives the guitar its characteristic powerful bass tones, while the mahogany provides warmth and a nice sustain. The plastic adjustable bridge saddle was a practical innovation that allowed for accurate intonation without the need for expensive adjustments. The guitar is in excellent condition and shows the typical charm of a well-maintained vintage Gibson. On the back of the headstock we find replaced tuners, and we can also see that the nut has been raised. The sunburst finish has developed a beautiful patina over the years, with playwear, dings, and crackle. This is a guitar that is not only historically interesting, but also simply plays and sounds wonderful as only a vintage Gibson can! There is no denying that this is a great sounding instrument with a lot of character. Comparable to a Martin D18, but with that typical mellow sounding Gibson magic. They are known as perfect studio instruments that lend themselves perfectly to the most beautiful recordings. Listen to the demo by Maurice van Hoek to hear how that sounds! Consignment. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
