Care

The Sanden Guitars is all made out of solid wood that is perfectly quarter sawn. This is to get maximum sound out of the guitar. However this means that the instrument is sensitive to the humidity. When we build the guitars we do that in humidity controlled workshop. We keep it a little dryer than normal, 40-45%. The ideal humidity for the guitar is 50%. During the winter the humidity cold be as low as 20% and during the summer it can reach over 80%. When the humidity is high the instrument swells up and when it is low the instrument will shrink. To keep the guitar safe from cracking, keep it as often as you can in the case. When the humidity goes under 35%, put in a humidifier and when it is over 45% you can take it out again. This applies for all instruments with solid wood.If the guitars body and neck get dirty. Wipe it of with a clean rag, and then use Sanden guitar polish to get the shine back. Use only polish on high gloss guitars. The fretboard and bridge is oiled and here it is good to use paraffin oil. Once a year is more than enough. If your guitar needs to have the stringheight adjusted, please contact us first and we will instruct you along the way.Keep this in mind and you will enjoy your guitars for years.

General

Our fretboards and necks are available in a lot of different variations. Our regular string length is 650 mm except for the baritone, which is 710 mm. The neck shape is available in V, D and C shape. We also have as a standard, a zero fret on all our guitars. We know that this gives the guitar a better balance. There is always metal in contact with the string. It gives the guitar better intonation, you always get the perfect string height and it does not wears down as fast as a bone nut.

True Temperament

Since a few years back we have been using the True temperament fretting system on our guitars as an option. Instead of just using the compromise by intonate the saddle, with the TT system the whole fretboard is intonated. This means that the higher up the neck you play the more in tune you will be. We use the Thidell formula 1 fretboard. Sanden guitars has the sole right to use this system on acoustic guitars. For more information about the True temperament system please visit there website at www.truetemperament.com.

Fan fret

The fan fret is a combination of two string lengths. We use 650 mm on the high E string and 680 mm on the low E. The guitars works well in standard tuning but you get the full benefit of this system if you use different tuning. It is possible to go as low as A and still get a good steady balance of the guitar. It is not possible to combine the TT system with the fan fret. For more information about our fretboards please contact us.

Warranty

The Sanden Guitars come with a lifetime warranty to the first owner for as long as we are working as luthiers. That means that we will, without additional cost, repair or adjust any defects or flaws due to material imperfections. Any damage due to carelessness or negligence from the user will make the warranty void. Along with the warranty you will also receive a maintenance guide. Our instruments are made of wood, which means they may react to large humidity variations. If you are unsure of anything regarding your guitar, don’t hesitate to contact us. Any alteration on the instrument done by yourself or any person chosen by you without consulting us first may void the warranty. Read the maintenance guide carefully and follow its advice and you will have many happy moments with your Sanden Guitar.

The best material is needed to build an instrument that is pleasing to the ear, the eyes and the heart.

Slow growing wood that has been cut and dried properly is a basic requirement. Therefore, we personally choose and purchase the material each year from Germany, the United States, England and India.

Michael has learned this from the two masters he studied with, Bozo Padunavac in San Diego in 1982, where he learned to build steel-string guitars and mandolins, and then with Georg Bolin between 1984-1986, where he learned to build classical guitars.

In 1986 Michael received his Journeyman’s Certificate as a qualified builder and in 1996 he got his Master’s Certificate in guitar craftmanship. Sanden Guitars has been a member of the "Guild of American Luthiers" since 1983 and has participated in several conventions over the years.

Since 2010, Sanden Guitars is situated in Gothenburg Sweden.

Michael and Kari together owns and runs Sanden guitars. Right now Michael is doing all the building and Kari helps out where it is needed. Together they do their utmost to take care of you so that you are going to feel safe with your Sanden guitar.

Up until two years ago all sales have gone thru us directly. We have now dealers in England and Italy. We are at the moment looking for more dealers. So if you know any guitarstore you might think would  like to carry our guitars, please contact us.
