This is a lovely instrument by Tobias Braun. and as usual, he has used some spectacular materials including gorgeous German spruce which is covered in bearclaw and has irregular, yet tight and beautiful grain patters. This instrument is inspired by the great turn-of-the-century style as found in Manuel Ramirez (as most famously in the 1912 instrument of Andres Segovia), not just in the appearance, but structurally as well - it's lightly built, has a quick response and a loose, warm, romantic sound and at the same time, very clean and extremely loud, with a very robust, rounded, thick, yet clear quality of sound.
Tobias also used a small tornavoz, about 16mm deep, to increase projection and clarity. Although a second-hand instrument, it has no structural damage or repairs, only some wear in the finish and the addition of tap plates which allow it to be used as a flamenco negra if so desired! All in all, a very unique and engaging instrument.
Guitar Salon International, USA
Founded in 1983, Guitar Salon International (GSI) is the world’s largest dealer of concert-level classical and flamenco guitars. For over 35 years now, we serve players, collectors and aficionados by offering the best hand-built instruments of leading young guitar makers as well as those of established historical masters. In this process, we acquire and sell many of the most desirable instruments in history, and we subsequently help to assemble important private collections. With the involvement of top concert artists (including Pepe Romero, Scott Tennant, Marc Teicholz, Andrew York and others), GSI showcases several exceptional guitars through audio, video, studio-CD and live concert recordings.
Guitar Salon International established the GSI Foundation in 2011 after receiving public donations aimed at community development. The Foundation’s mission is to help develop the local community by raising money to support music education in public schools. These local schools are then offered assistance to pay teachers, provided with instruments for students who cannot afford them, and supplied with musicians for performances that can inspire kids to play a musical instrument.
