Fender / Custom Shop 60 Relic Stratocaster / 2012 / Lake Placid Blue / Guitar

Classic looks, thinskin custom colour finish and Abigail Ybarra pickups. What more do you want?

For those of you unfamiliar with ‘the queen of tone’ and her work, Abigail started working for Fender in 1956, moving to pickup winding in 1958. Her hand wound pickups will have undoubtedly been fitted to instruments played by the great and the good of the guitar pantheon and have become sought after in more recent years as she wound units for the Custom shop. A hand wound pickups produces a scatter wind pattern over the more regular winding produced by a machine.

This process produces more air spaces in the coil allowing more of the high frequencies through. The process also produces pickups that have a more individually unique tone making it more personal to the winder that made them. Abigail retired in 2013. Her pickups can be distinguished by the here signature with pickups she oversaw being denoted by an initial.

This guitar is in stunning condition. Its had very little use as is evident by the fret wear, the body has been lightly relic’d to give it that well cared for look. The Lake Placid Blue has been applied thinly so you can still make out the grain at certain angles.

The neck has been finished to have a worn in feel and is very comfortable in the hand. The 9.5” radius is great for bends without moving too far away from the vintage specs.

The hardware has been tastefully aged.

The guitar comes with a Brown Tolex hardshell case

All you classic tones are here, accessed via the five way switch. The guitar is very responsive and a joy to play with any position yielding a plethora of usable tones.

We’ve come to really appreciate these Custom shop offerings as they have passed through our hands and this guitar is no exception with looks and tone to die for. Grab it whilst you still can.
