This is a very rare and beautiful 1963 1964 Fender Telecaster Custom which has had the most amazing Tom Murphy BODY ONLY refin in sunburst nitro in superb reliced condition with all original hardware including the lovely, crack free, green guard.
Guitar has had an interesting history and I beleive the amazing Tom Murphy refin has fooled a few people and I must admit, when I first glanced at it, I too could have taken it for an authentic body finish - you do need to see it up real close to think anything else. Mr Murphy has done a seriously good job on this body, the colour is perfect and it has just the right amount of relicing and lacquer checking on it.
Included is a letter from Tom Murphy stating he did the work on this body, which is a factory original 1964 Telecaster Custom body and he reliced the body to match the finish on the original neck. A bit of dectective work was required to retreive this letter as it was originally thought to be lost from the guitar...
I’m sure I do not need to tell you, pre-CBS Telecaster Cutoms are very rare indeed and if you cannot afford £20k+ for an all original then this, without any doubt at all, is the next best thing…
Serial number is L35123, neck date is NOV 63 and all pots date to early 1964. Included is a period correct 1964 blonde tolex case that was originaly for a Jazzmaster/Jaguar and an ashtray bridge cover plus a CITES certificate.
As far as I can tell, everything - hardware and electrics is all original except the frets and the nut. Electrics are original including the two stunning sounding pre-CBS pickups, as is all the other hardware. Please have a look at the many photos taken from all angles.
Guitar plays very well with lots of life left on the medium wide frets, neck is a comfortable, typical 1963 medium ‘C' profile and weight is a heavenly 3.4Kg.
