A super cool example of the late-’70s Fender Telecaster Custom, with it's sleek and timeless Black finish. Famously favoured by Keith Richards, the Tele Custom blends classic Fender design with some Gibson-esque flavour, thanks to the unique pickup configuration that sets it apart from a standard Telecaster.
This 1978 example features the hallmark Wide Range humbucker in the neck position paired with a traditional Tele single coil in the bridge, offering a versatile and dynamic tonal range—from warm, full-bodied neck tones to crisp, biting Tele twang. The four-knob layout and three-way toggle gives you easy access to everything from glassy cleans to gritty rhythm crunch.
The fairly heavy Alder body and Maple neck provide a solid, resonant platform giving a snappy attack and bright top end, while the ‘70s-style larger headstock and bullet truss rod reflect the era’s aesthetic. The neck has a comfortable, fairly chunky ‘C’ profile that plays well with a naturally worn-in feel.
This guitar has clearly been played and enjoyed but remains in good condition overall, with honest wear, dings and light scratches that adds to its vintage vibe. The black finish has aged nicely with just the right amount of mojo, and besides a change saddle, all the right parts are present.
