The Heavy Aged treatment goes far beyond a few cosmetic nicks; the lacquer checking, worn edges, dulled hardware and finish fading are all meticulously done to evoke the feel and look of a road-worn classic. This one plays and sounds every bit as good as it looks. The neck has that comfortable late-'50s chunky carve, not overly fat but with just enough meat to feel substantial in the hand.
Plugged in, it delivers all the bite, bloom and sustain you'd expect from a great R9.
