Gibson / EDS 1275 - Bernie Marsden Collection / 1966 / Cherry / Guitar

Proving that the guitar world is only so big, this  Gibson EDS1275 from 1966 has its history with us at ATB Guitars as well as being part of the Bernie Marsden Collection. This guitar is featured on page 215 of Bernie's hardback book 'Tales of Tone and Volume' a copy of which will be included with this sale.

Mike from ATB Guitars bought the guitar in 2010 when Alan Silson from the Bradford band 'Smokie' walked in with it at a guitar show in Leeds ATB Guitars were exhibiting at. Bernie bought it from us and it's been part of the collection until now. Alan Silson told Mike he bought it from Martin Barre of Jethro Tull and seemed to think they used it during their Isle of Weight performance in 1970.

This is a super duper rare original Gibson EDS-1275 from 1966 and interestingly, from consulting the sales figures, only four of these guitars were built in 1966 making this quite an amazing find to say the least..!

The guitar is in great condition. As you expect there is some checking and some dings and knocks but nothing too substantial. Importantly though there are no signs of any breaks or repairs.

Both necks are in great shape with some sign of use but plenty of life left in the frets. The six string has been fitted with Grover tuners whilst the twelve string neck still retains its correct Kluson tuners.

Plastics are in good condition as is the hardware which only shows some minor tarnishing.

Electrically everything looks correct with solder joints left undisturbed. All four T top humbuckers don’t look to have been disturbed either.

The guitar comes with an original 70’s hardshell case which in itself is a rare find.

A statement guitar if ever there was one, this guitar sounds as good as it looks. The twelve string sounds clear, chiming like a bell whilst the 6 string can be coaxed into classic SG territory.

Another great guitar with  a cool story. Sometimes a twin neck is what's needed.
