Gibson / ES-140 T 3/4 Bernie Marsden Collection / 1958 / Sunburst / Guitar

Another instrument from the Bernie Marsden collection. This guitar is featured on page 293 of Bernie's hardback book 'Tales of Tone and Volume' a copy of which will be included with this sale.

During the Alaska period, Bernie used a studio in Lincolnshire called The Chapel that was run by former The Motors guitarist Bram Tchaikovsky. He had acquired the guitar from a preacher during a US tour with the band. Bernie became fascinated by it, so much so that after much cajoling Bram sold him the guitar. Bernie found the case ten years ago, an equally rare find…

Though slightly faded, the sunburst finish is still vivid all over. This guitar has had a life and there are signs of use but its not been abused. The writing on the back reads ‘The music you play is the truth you speak’

The neck too is in good condition and both fretboard and frets are in great shape. There is a hole in the back of the headstock which was presumably for a strap at some stage.

The rosewood bridge is in great condition as are the plastics. The pickguard is long lost and there's evidence on the top of the body that it has been played for a while without one.

Inside, the electronics are all correct and the pickup works really well with all the growl and warmth you expect from vintage P-90’s.

The guitar comes with a correct Gator skin case.

There’s jazz, blues and roots all hiding in here. Even with a single P90, there's plenty of tonal scope and it's a joy to play plugged in or acoustically.

These student models are a way of accessing these fabulous Gibson tones without the higher price tags of the other more desirable models, grab them before they fly away.
