2009 Gibson ES-335 TD 1959 VOS Reissue in Sunburst, built on the 50th anniversary year of one of Gibson's most iconic electric guitars. Produced as a limited edition of just 500 instruments worldwide - 250 in each finish - this model captures all the tone, feel, and golden-era detail of the original 1959 ES-335, complete with Custom Shop build quality and VOS finishing.
The guitar features a symmetrical double cutaway semi-hollow laminated maple body, with single-ply cream top and back binding. The neck is a set one-piece mahogany 1959 rounded profile with long tenon joint, paired with a bound 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays. The headstock holly overlay is adorned wiht a pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay, and to the back we have some nickel Gibson Kluson Deluxe tuners with tulip buttons.
The hardware includes a vintage-correct ABR-1 bridge and stop tailpiece, with a raised bound black pickguard, and nickel hardware throughout. Electronics include a pair of Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers, wired through CTS pots with Bumble Bee capacitors and a three-way pickup selector rounds out the control set. The result is a guitar that delivers the rich, resonant tone the ES-335 is famed for - equally at home in blues, jazz, rock, or soul.
Aesthetically, this example is finished in a beautifully aged Antique Sunburst nitro lacquer, applied in Gibson's VOS (Vintage Original Spec) process to subtly replicate the look and feel of a well-cared-for original. The amber top hat knobs, cream binding, long pickguard, and lightly dulled metalwork give it the perfect vintage presentation.
Tonally, it's everything a great ES-335 should be - open and woody with plenty of articulation, but with the sustain and punch of a solid-body thanks to the maple centre block. The '57 Classics handle cleans and gain with equal authority, and the neck carve feels immediately familiar - chunky but refined, with fantastic playability.
Complete with its original Custom Shop brown and pink hardshell case, certificate of authenticity, tags, and polish cloth, this is a top-tier tribute to the 1959 original.
