Gibson / Es-335 Bigsby / 1966 / Sparkling Burgundy / Guitar For Sale
A striking 1966 Gibson ES-335 TD, finished in the rare and eye-catching Sparkling Burgundy - a colour that, with age, has mellowed into a gorgeous coppery hue that looks even better in the flesh! This one has character in spades, tons of visual interest, and the kind of vibe that can only be achieved with time.
It's had an added Bigsby with the original chrome trapeze tailpiece retained in the case. The Bigsby works beautifully and really suits the guitar both aesthetically and funtionally - adding just enough weight to giv either great balance on a strap. There's plenty of lacquer checking and crazing throughout the finish, enhancing the already unique look of the aged metallic finish. Sparkling Burgundy was never a common finish, and examples that age like this are even more elusive.
The tuners are correct double line/double ring Klusons, though conversion bushings have been fitted and holes from a previous tuner install remain visible. Tonally, it delivers that classic Gibson semi-hollow warmth and clarity, with a touch of chime on top and plenty of bite when you dig in. It's dynamic and lively, with excellent acoustic resonance and a slim neck that feels comfortable in the hand with the medium C profile wearing the slimmer nut width well.
Whether you're a collector drawn to rarer finishes or a player looking for a vintage 335 with standout looks and big tone, this one delivers on every level. A very cool guitar with loads of style, great bones, and bags of '60s Gibson mojo!
