Gibson / Les Paul Special / 1956 / TV / Guitar

This is a SUPERB vintage original with no breaks 1956 Gibson Les Paul Special in original TV limed mahogany finish that has all the iportant bits right like original finish, no overspray, no breaks and is nearly all original.

It is good condition, but as you can see it has been played and there is a fair bit of wear on the back of the neck plus lots of dings and some checking but it really does look very cool, it is all solid, stable, sounds terrific with 2x original P-90 pickups and plays well too with nice action on the original 1956 frets!

There has never been any kind of Maestro, Vibrola or any other tone destroying tailpiece ever fitted to this guitar and there has never been any headstock or neck/body joint repair. It has had a small area of wood reglued near the bridge pins - this is common on 1956 Juniors etc and was part of a cure for leaning bridge studs. It is minor as you can see in the photos.

All hardware is original with the exception of 2x fingerboard dots, 2x P-90 mounting screws, the jack socket and one of the original knob skirts has a broken piece. The output wiring has been joined about 10cm from the jack socket. No idea why but probably something to do with the replaced jack socket itself.

Pickups are original and sound great as are all pots and capacitors. All together a great, straight guitar with good life left on original frets, plays very well and is a very resonant guitar acoustically, great fun to just pick up and play. Serial number is 6 5157 and it has a nice fat, typical 1956 neck. Weight is a mere 3.6Kg.

As a footnote, I was at a live auction today and a re-finished 1956 Les Paul Special with an incorrect 7 digit serial number and a lot of changed hardware and a suspect neck joint went for £5,456 including commission… I think mine may be a good deal...
